Meet Wynn Horton

Wynn was born and raised in Western New York, south of Buffalo – Go Bills! – but has lived here in the Hampton Roads region for nearly a decade. After growing up in a rural community in New York, he relocated with his family to Virginia Beach in 2015 and began working at the HER Shelter (Help & Emergency Response, Inc.) in Portsmouth. His time at the Shelter was instrumental in making the decision to attend law school in 2018.

With his family, he relocated again to Cincinnati, Ohio where he attended the University of Cincinnati College of Law. He worked and volunteered during his entire law school education (College of Law Admissions, Legal Researcher, and multiple local nonprofit organizations). Perhaps most significantly, at the beginning of his second year of law school, Wynn and his wife became licensed as Ohio foster parents.

Since returning to Virginia, Wynn spent five years working as an Assistant Public Defender in Chesapeake – representing children and adults charges with serious felonies and misdemeanors. He developed a niche practice in representing and working with clients with diagnoses of mental illness and represented his office at Chesapeake’s Behavioral Health Specialty Docket and Recovery Court.  He has extensive litigation and trial experience and zealously represented more than 1500 people in a wide variety of cases during his tenure as a public defender. He enjoys jury trials immensely and believes that every case and client is worth fighting for.

In his spare time, Wynn enjoys kayaking, cooking, spending time outdoors, and being with his family. And of course – rooting for Buffalo sports teams!
